Can You Rent Artwork and Decor Finishing Touches?
“You want it alllllllll but you can’t haaaaaave it, it’s iiiiiiiiin your face but you can’t graaaaabit”…
Ah yes, the wise words of Faith No More’s Epic often remind me of what I can and can’t have. Yes, I do want it all, and dammit Mike Patton, I’m going to try as hard as I can to actually have it all. You and your song won’t stop me!
Ok, ok rant over.
The fact of the matter is that I’m getting pretty used to getting exactly what I want. I whip out my phone for a ride and an Uber is at my door in under 5 minutes. I call the local pizza joint and I’m shovelling the dreamy thing into my mouth before you know it. I make a few clicks and I’ve booked myself a holiday to Asia with all my flights and accommodation. I rent a bartender to come around for my party on Saturday on Airtasker. Seriously. Anything I want – it’s mine.
Recently I moved back to Sydney after a long hiatus overseas, moved back into a rental property with a 6-month lease even, just on the off chance that I want to take off again. It’s in a great spot overlooking the harbour, I really am loving the location. I rented furniture because duh, I don’t know how long I will be staying.
But, you know, after furnishing my new little apartment and looking out over Sydney harbour I looking back around and everything just looked so… clinical. I dallied briefly with the idea of buying a whole lot of flowers to brighten up the apartment but that would’ve been a dumb decision because flowers just die.
I wandered around Westfield and QVB in the city aimlessly, trying to find some things that would look nice in the apartment and would tie in nicely with my furniture, but as usual, I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for. I went in and printed out some of my pictures with friends and family from Instagram and Facebook and put them in some frames but it really wasn’t quite enough. I wasn’t feeling brave enough to scrounge the aisles of a billion homewares shops and the few candles I’d picked up at Dusk were (I think?) lightening my mood but not actually solving my problem.
All of a sudden a flash came over me. What if I could rent all this stuff? I thought I was onto a winning service idea here. Other young professionals like me must be in the boat. So I gave it a Google.
Well, turns out you can rent artwork and décor finishing touches for your home already, so unfortunately my idea to make mega bucks was nixed, however on the plus side I could now actually rent these things for my own apartment – yay!
Yep, there are services out there in Sydney that offer this. I have a bunch of nice stuff now decorating my apartment, including an absolutely stunning full length mirror next to the door so I can check I’m photo-op worthy before I leave the house, and a great large modern print hanging on my wall.
If you’re looking to decorate your apartment or house and you don’t want to have to shop yourself, or don’t know when you are going to be leaving, then these services are truly made for you – just like they’re made for me. Often you can even get a stylist in to see what they’d recommend to put in your home – which saves you even more time which is awesome!
